Pilot Guides Lonely Planet: Baja California (1 of 18)

I'm in the middle of Baja California Mexico.
800 miles that way is Los Angeles, California, USA.
Bright lights, fast cars, big stars and big bucks, whereas here mountains, deserts and cactus.
Baja is the peninsular that hangs off the south west coast of the USA.
lts population is just 2 million and 90% of the land is uninhabited.
From the border town of Tijuana I'll head south taking in Catholic missions, lagoons and coastline.
Then I'll cross the Sea of Cortez heading for the Copper Canyon on Mexico's mainland, home of the modern cowboy and the ancient Tarahumara lndians.

This is my first trip ever man and I'm looking everyday for something new.
This is the barrier that keeps Mexicans out of North America, where people risk their lives to get into the States.
But for North Americans, Tijuana has always had a reputation for being a wild border town.
But now you are more likely to find a hamburger than you are a gun fight.
But having said that it is still a haven for criminals on the run, leachy business men, gamblers and school boys looking for a good time.
I wouldn't want to walk around at night.
Too scared.
Really.
