How to Be A Prince (1 of 65)
June the 21 st marks Prince William's Birthday.
One day, barring mishap or revolution, he'll be King William The Fifth...
...the 65th monarch in a family line that can be traced back for over a thousand years.
He's been trained for a life of protocol and public service.
His future is mapped out for him, one of privilege but not freedom.
How is a young man prepared to be king?
History shows us there are certain steps that should always be taken as a prince makes his way to the throne - but what are they? Every time there's a royal occasion, someone's making collectable crockery.
William's face stares out from a million mugs - a young man at the start of his adult life.
And if he seems to have a slightly troubled look there could be a good reason.
Whether there will be a throne for William to inherit in 30, 40, 50 years' time l think probably depends quite a lot on him.
l think the future really is in his hands.
William has a lot on his plate.
They've got all this money but at the end of the day they can't do what they want.
Walk down the road.
Go shopping.
Go get a bag of chips.
He's a prisoner of history, trapped in a lifetime of duty and responsibility.
If you're born with such privilege there is a payback and William will have to learn to be in the public eye and to perform his public duties as a public person.
This is a very serious minded...
quite guarded young man who...
...sees his destiny as his doom.
Throughout history, it's always been a mixed blessing to be a prince. |
